"Astrid" has had her final finishing touches masterfully carried out over the last two years. The rig has been fully completed including fabulous custom, cream coloured sails fabricated by Northwest Sails in Port Townsend. For full details, see inside listing.
“Astrid” is truly one of the most remarkable custom yachts we have ever had the honour to represent. Her fiberglass hull was built by Channel Cutter Yachts. The cabin, decks, and interior were all finished by her original owner, a Master Yacht Joiner who has spared no attention to detail and care during her construction. Over 10,000 hours have gone into her build alone. First class materials have been carefully sourced including bronze winches and custom cast bronze foundry fittings used throughout -- creating a very traditional flare. Material costs easily exceed $500,000 .
For the initiated, Lyle Hess designs need no introduction. The Falmouth Cutter 34 was the newest and last of his design work -- serious, no nonsense, & safe ocean passage makers.
With a replacement value of well over one million dollars -- At $295,000 CAD there is no better value in the market place for a vessel of this calibre.

Sails / Rigging / Recent Upgrades
SAILS:
* A custom, cream coloured dacron, radial cut mainsail with some roach, battens and three reefs was made up in Port Townsend by Sean Rankins of Northwest Sails and Canvas. Also built were a matching cream dacron furling 100% high clewed jib that is now installed on the furler and a matching staysail with silicone bronze piston hanks. The sails were completed in August 2023.
(Sean has 40 years of experience in sail making having worked with Lowell North, and Carol Hasse and his loft has made the sails for Tallyho using the same cream dacron used on ASTRID.)
* Inger Rankins, a master Canvas worker, (Sean's wife and partner), built a custom Sunbrella mainsail cover that is the best made sail cover we have ever seen along with a hanging sunbrella bag for the staysail.
* A three piece Sunbrella total winter boat cover was locally made along with additional covers for the cockpit rails and varnished blocks and a Sunbrella cover for the windlass.
RIGGING:
* A new forestay and Harken MarkIV furling gear was installed by Blackline. The furling line is lead back by traditional thimbles ending in a bronze sheave near the cockpit winches. The chain Bobstay was replaced by a 1x9 spiced wire with bronze thimbles, custom made in Connecticut by a master rigger. New Lewmar bronze winches were installed for the staysail along with adjacent bronze cleats and of course silicon bronze fasteners. Three new low stretch halyards along with shackles and Flemish eyes were also made up by Blackline. The mast was tuned and all turnbuckles now have bronze welding wire seizing.
* Four premium Yacht Blocks with Bronze sheaves - one three part, one 2 part, and two singles were obtained from Toplicht in Germany along with silicone bronze cam cleats for the two ended mainsheet set up.
* Custom silicone bronze mounts for the mainsheet cam cleats were made up and installed on each corner of the Taffrail. The bronze was obtained from Atlas metals in Denver. All fasteners and shackles are bronze.
* Pete Langley from Port Townsend Foundry made up custom bronze cars and T- track for the staysail and were installed using bronze fasteners and custom made bronze backing plates along with two custom bronze fairleads.
* Three large silicone bronze cleats on the mast for the halyards and two bronze winches and two bronze cleats on the boom for the reefing lines and a bronze sheave for the third reef.
ELECTRONICS & MISC:
* Simrad chartplotter / sounder in a custom brass mount in the cabin with a portable mount for the plotter to be moved to the companionway.
* A moveable Ritchie compass for the cockpit with a bronze/teak mount.
* Recent full engine and transmission service
* Last haul out and bottom paint and zinc change -- November 2023
* Nordik Marine Survey -- August, 2022 (FRP propane tanks inspected and re-certified and propane locker resealed as per recommendations)
